DIGESTIVE BITTERS: HERBAL EXTRACT FOR HEALTHY DIGESTION
A classic bitter herb formula in the tradition of European digestive tonics, crafted with four time-tested botanicals to support healthy digestion. Bitters have been part of the herbal toolkit for thousands of years, and for good reason. I keep a bottle of these in my kitchen right next to the stove.
The Formula:
Gentian root is considered the gold standard of bitter herbs. It has been used in European herbalism for centuries and is the backbone of many traditional digestive formulas. Ginger root adds a warming quality that has been traditionally used across cultures to support digestive comfort. Fennel seed is one of the most gentle and widely used digestive herbs in both Western and Ayurvedic traditions. Dandelion root supports healthy liver function and adds mild bitterness to stimulate the body's natural digestive processes.
Traditional Uses:
Bitter herbs have been a cornerstone of traditional herbalism for thousands of years. The bitter taste is believed to naturally support the body's digestive processes by signaling the stomach to prepare for a meal. Gentian and dandelion are among the most traditional "bitters" in Western herbalism, while ginger has been valued across Asian and Western traditions for its warming digestive support. Fennel is traditionally recognized as a gentle, soothing digestive herb.
Directions:
Take 10-30 drops in water or juice about 30 minutes before eating. Start with a lighter dose and work up.
