Spring Clean Your Body

In today's fast-paced world, our bodies are constantly bombarded with toxins from the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the products we use. Over time, these toxins can accumulate in our organs and tissues, leading to a range of health issues and diminishing our vitality. It's good to periodically go through a detox for your body.

As always, if you are taking prescription medications or are under the care of a health care provider, check with them before doing a detox so that you can do it safely. Otherwise, here are some ways you can 'Spring Clean Your Body'.

1. Clean Eating: Focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Home grown or organic are best if available. Minimize processed foods, sugar, alcohol, and caffeine, which can burden the body with toxins and impede detoxification. If you are healthy and it is safe for you to do so, consider some type of fasting.

2. Flush It Out: Drink plenty of water to support detoxification and flush out toxins from the body. Consider adding lemon water or herbal teas to enhance detoxification and support liver health. Dandelion is a great herb for this.

3. Love Your Liver: The liver is our body's primary detoxification organ. Support liver health by incorporating liver-friendly foods such as cruciferous vegetables, garlic, turmeric, and dandelion root into your diet. Artichoke is another great liver loving food.

4. Sweat it Out: Engage in regular exercise to promote sweating, which helps eliminate toxins through the skin. Saunas and steam baths are also excellent ways to support detoxification and relax the body. Often we forget just how large of a detox organ our skin can be.

5. Relaxation: Incorporate stress-reducing practices such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises into your routine. Stress can impair detoxification pathways, so managing stress is crucial for overall detoxification and well-being.

One more thing to keep in mind is that when you go through a detox, your body may undergo what is called a 'healing crisis', which is when you may feel under the weather or have cold-like symptoms. If this happens, be sure to get plenty of rest and don't overdo it, because you will feel amazing on the other side of the detox.
