New Year's Spiritual Cleansing: Benefits and Herbal Allies

The New Year offers a fresh start, making it the perfect time for a spiritual cleansing. Just as we declutter our homes, cleansing our spirit helps us release negativity, align with positive intentions, and welcome the abundance of the year ahead. Herbs like basil, rue, hyssop, and rosemary have been used for centuries as powerful tools for spiritual renewal. Give yourself an advantage this year for keeping your New Year's Resolution by removing the old energies in your home and aura.

The Benefits of Spiritual Cleansing

Spiritual cleansing purifies your energy, allowing you to:

  • Release the Past: Let go of emotional baggage and lingering negativity.
  • Reset Your Intentions: Create a clean slate for your goals and resolutions.
  • Enhance Positivity: Attract peace, prosperity, and balance into your life.

Herbs for Spiritual Cleansing

  • Basil: Known for attracting prosperity and protecting against negativity, basil can be used in cleansing baths or burned as an offering.
  • Rue: A powerful herb for removing negative energy and warding off ill intentions, rue is often used in smudge practices or infused into cleansing sprays.
  • Hyssop: Traditionally valued for its purifying properties, hyssop can be added to spiritual baths or steeped as a tea for cleansing practices.
  • Rosemary: A versatile herb for protection and clarity, rosemary can be burned as incense or placed in cleansing sachets. Powdered rosemary and frankincense resin burned together on an incense charcoal are great for cleansing your space. A spray can also be made using the essential oil for use in areas that cannot have incense.

Simple Cleansing Practice

  1. Prepare: Choose one or more of these herbs and create a cleansing bath, smudge bundle, floor wash, or spray. For a spray, you can also substitute essential oils where the herb is not available. As always, fresh is best, followed by dried herbs and then essential oil. Use care when adding essential oils to a floor wash to be sure they won't damage the finish on your floors.
  2. Set Intentions: Before using the herbs, state your goals for releasing old energy and welcoming new opportunities. It is helpful to light a white candle and pray over your herbs before you make your preparation. Not only do candles enhance the energy, they also help you maintain focus.
  3. Cleanse: Use the herbs in your chosen method, focusing on the renewal of your spirit and space.

Start your year with clarity and purpose by using these time-honored herbal practices. With a cleansed spirit, you'll be ready to step into the new year with positivity and strength.
