Bold Burdock Root
As the leaves start turning, the winds start whirling, the days get shorter, and you know it’s October. Our ancestors were finishing up their harvests and knew it was the time of year the veil gets thinner between worlds. Not only is this the time to harvest roots that are used for herbal medicine, but it’s also a good time to strengthen your spiritual protection. For the next few weeks, we'll discuss popular protective herbs and how to use them.
This is a great time to harvest burdock root. We transition to heavier comfort foods toward the winter months and bitter constituents of the burdock root stimulate digestive juices and bile secretion. Taken internally and applied externally, burdock helps skin conditions, which can worsen as the air gets colder and drier. You can also add burdock root to a cleansing tea used as a floor scrub for your house or keep a piece in a mojo bag to carry for protection.
Next week, will be another popular, protective, healthful herb.
Stay Blessed!
