Battling The Winter Blues
January can be a depressing month. Fortunately, it is only 31 days, the days are getting longer, and February brings Valentine's Day to brighten our spirit. If you are struggling with winter blues, there are some herbs that can help.
One of the most popular and well studied herbs that can help with mild to moderate depression is St. Johns wort. Drinking 2-3 cups of St. Johns wort tea can help you get through the depressing months of winter. As with all herbs, if you are taking prescription medications or are under the care of a health care provider, check with your health care provider before taking any herbal supplements.
Often people experience anxiety as part of the winter blues. Chamomile and lemon balm tea can help calm your nerves and relax you.
If you are feeling lethargic, try some invigorating herbs. Ginseng, ashwagandha, eleuthero, and rhodiola are roots that can help nourish your body and bring back your vitality.
And remember, it's only winter. Do what you can to keep your mind occupied and stay busy. Exercise is another great way to combat the winter blues. One of my favorite mantras is, 'This, too, shall pass'.
